What a politician's life is like.

A talk from Simon Harris (TD)

On Friday 23rd of October, Mr Simon Harris minister of state and TD for Wicklow and East- Carlow kindly came in to talk to our year about Politics in general. He was very generous with his time and answered all of our questions honestly and patiently.

Firstly he talked about what he exactly does for the country and how he works with other people in the government to keep the state running efficiently.

He then went on to tell us about what it is like to be a politician and the challenges he faces every day. He told us about the recession and what strategies the government used to get through the recession as smoothly as possible. He admitted that Ireland has gone through a very rough patch but will come out stronger which was very positive.

He also talked about the special needs epidemic currently in Ireland which is very close to his heart as his brother, Adam has Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. This was very interesting for Ms. Buckley’s YSI group as they are doing their project on special needs.

We then went on to have a question and answer session where topics such as NAMA and of course McDonalds arose.

It was a very good talk and If I was 18 I would definitely vote for Simon Harris.
