Dublin Zoo
On Thursday, 8th of October, all TY
students along with Ms Young, Ms Roy and Jason headed on a day trip to Dublin
Zoo. Most TYs went because they were doing biology and wanted to learn more
about conservation and animal species, I just went for the fun!
It was a beautiful clear sunny morning when we
arrived at the zoo and we were quite eager to start our journey around the Zoo
looking at the various animals.
For about an hour and a half we were let loose
around the Zoo, taking in the vibrant atmosphere and giggling at our friends
trying to interpret the monkey's speech. A few friends and I spotted a Costa so we rushed over to it to buy iced coffees which were delicious.
After our wander about which I really enjoyed, we
were taken on a Conservation walk, where John our guide told us many
interesting facts about conservation in the Zoo. John told us that Dublin Zoo
takes part in a worldwide breeding programme where they try to keep unique
animals from going extinct. The ultimate goal with conservation at Dublin Zoo
is the preservation of animals who are threatened with extinction so that they
can be reintroduced into their habitat in the wild in the future.
Finishing the talk with rumbling tummy’s we set off
to have our lunches, with some people buying food from the lovely cafes and
others bringing
packed lunches.
At about 2 o'clock after lunch, we were allowed to
wander around the zoo again which I found to be brilliant as it gave me the
chance to take in some details of the animals which I had missed on my first
walk around the Zoo. We got to see the penguins get fed with their food flying
up in the air, a piece of fish even landed in my friend’s hair! After that, we
saw Cassie the sea lion, doing absolutely superb flips and tricks. She had us
gasping with amazement the whole time, mouths wide open.
Dublin Zoo was a fantastic experience overall and it
was a great day out.
